Guys. Come on. When a doctor calls a baby by their biological sex, they aren’t being transphobic or bigoted or ANYTHING. The baby needs proper shots and care for their biological sex, and they can’t exactly define themselves quite yet. ITS NOT BEING OFFENSIVE. ITS BEING SENSIBLE.

voidprincen:

calling it “biological sex” is offensive. The whole concept of “biological sex” is bullshit. Everyone, including trans people, are their biological sex if they say so.

And anyhow gender is actually completely irrelevant to medical needs no matter your age. Genitals are relevant to medical care though, and it’s really a lot simpler to just record the type of genitals the child has as opposed to assigning it a gender.

OH MY GOD there are so many things wrong with that comment it’s so cringeworthy

repeat after me..
gender and sex are not the same
gender and sex are not the same
gender and sex are not the same
GENDER AND SEX ARE NOT THE SAME
that is at the very core of what it means to be trans*..

sex is more genetic.. people of different biological sexes would have some differences in the certain degree by which genes are expressed and consequently the biochemical processes associated with said genes.. and it is the medical doctor’s duty to ensure to give a baby the required care to suit the baby’s biological sex
gender on the other hand is highly complex and personal. this is something the individual in question would have to think about.. no medical doctor can tell you what your gender is

'straight' boys on youtube who actively seek out gay scenes and leave a comment saying “ewww” or “gross” amaze me

sometimes I get rlly annoyed with tumblrs “americancentric” approach to everything because i see those posts like “white ppl have no culture” and i understand who they’re talking about but still you know, scottish culture was also appropriated heavily by the wealthy english and old customs, religions and fashions were outlawed in Scotland and only the rich english people were allowed to wear tartan so I dont know it’s just really frustrating

let’s not forget that they will refer to you as “african-american” despite the fact that you obviously have a Yorkshire accent and happen to have non-american black parents

sometimes people who complain about a ‘lack of diversity’ in a circle of friends on television go too far

in reality, there are circles of friends that are made up of whites and heterosexuals only

these people push the idea of a token queer and/or POC character too far, reducing us to mere objects of diversity

we’re human beings. not tokens of diversity.

There’s also whole circles of friends that are 100% LGBTQIAP+ and/or PoC.

But you don’t see 99% of media about them, do you?

Wanting diversity and representation in media isn’t about tokenism.

I feel like I should elaborate further by what I meant by ‘token of diversity’ and emphasise by what i meant by “going too far”.

Often one sees POCs and individuals who are poorly written that the character is defined only because of their skin colour and/or sexuality eg. george from my best friend’s wedding and damian from mean girls.. these type of characters are just there for diversity’s sake or accessories..

the characters lack depth are are just minor characters who are there for the sake of diversity and even worse, plot devices.

and don’t get me started with straight white people (notably americans) who try to define racism and homophobia for me when i bring this up

want diversity and representation? at least give us a well-written character. at least give us a character that defies harmful stereotypes. at least give us a character that’s realistic. at least give us a character who is not one dimensional.

of course there are exceptions to this. let’s not forget about characters who are written as human beings eg. sophia from OITNB.. not even a main character and yet the writers gave her a good and realistic background

as cringeworthy as it sounds, i would rather have an all white and all heterosexual ensemble of characters than to see a single POC and queer characters that are poorly written and lack depth and are just there as an accessory for the sake of ‘diversity’.

i would rather have an all white and all heterosexual ensemble of characters than to see us stripped down and reduced to simplistic individuals who are defined only by our skin colour and/or sexuality, gender.

i wouldn’t want to be represented as a stereotype on the media. i would rather be just not represented at all.
